The Sheng – A Musical Instrument – China

The musical instrument shown in the picture is called the Sheng. The Sheng is the precursor to the pipe organ and the bagpipes. This is a free reed mouth organ and it’s one of the oldest Chinese instruments. The Sheng was played in Confucian ceremonial music up to the 20th century.

Great piece of education, enjoy!

This gentleman was playing his heart out on the street near the Shanghai Rail Station off of line 1. The music was different and beautiful in its own way. His enthusiasm for his music was fantastic!
