There’s a whirlwind of activity going on all around town in preparation for the Chinese New Year. The grocery store’s are full of candy and massive sales on all shapes and sizes of luggage. China Post was packed with customers shipping bags upon bags back to their family homes.

There is a custom here in China regarding the broom. During the Spring Festival, avoid using brooms for three days, starting from New Year’s Day. This will ward off bad luck and pave the way for a promising year. Gamblers love to keep a broom in the room. The broom is used as a deadly weapon against the opponent. The broom is believed to contain a spirit with the devil’s own luck, threaten its well-being until you score a lucky strike.
