What is the world is that? That was my first question when I snapped the photo of these barrels. At first I thought the barrels were used for something to do with the wooden boats being built-in the Wooden Boat School. You should have seen my expression when I was told they were used for baking lobster. At the time, I smiled and thought to myself, “I know what I’m NOT eating while I’m here”.
I mean come on, the lobster I’ve eaten in the past is accompanied by a brilliant mix of butter, herb, & garlic sauce and a nice bottle of wine, YUM. This lobster was pretty much from the ocean, to the barrel, to your plate served with water or tea and lot’s of wipes for your hands. Oh, and a cup of water to help wash out the innards of the lobster before you ate it. Yes, you better believe this is the BEST way to eat lobster. Straight from the barrel!
Folks, I’ve never tasted lobster quite as delicious as the one’s we had while visiting Brooklin Maine. Brooklin Maine is a quaint little town with a population of about 850 people and home to The Wooden Boat Magazine and School. I’ll write more about our vacation to Maine in a later post. For now, let me tell you that I’ve never eaten lobster as delicious and fresh as the lobster that was baked in these 2 rusted out barrels. Lobster bakes in the barrels such as these is pretty common and part of the coastal town culture and charm.
