We selected another great area off of the metro line map to explore. On this trip we took Line 11 to a north Shanghai area in the Jiading District called NanXiang. This area is famous for Xiaolongbao steamed buns, Guyi Gardens a Ming Dynasty park, and Yun Xiang Si Temple. Due to timing we were able to visit Guyi Gardens, walked down some old town streets and ate Xiaolongbao.
The following photo’s are more architectural designs and a few scenic views. I am still amazed at some of the intricate elements we find in Asian architecture. Enjoy!
A welcoming entrance display
Bamboo Fish
A pavilion at the top of a rock formation
A 6 point pavilion
One of my favorite images.
These folks kept looking at the reflection in the water. A photo I captured in the next image.
The reflection in the water – I turned this image upside down so it appears right side up. Kind of fun…ha ha
Intruded in a ladies morning exercise… not proud but had to capture. 🙂
Mari is at the very top of this rock hill.
An architecture element – one of many
Window looking into the garden.
Chinese New Year setup is going on behind this building.
I love these types of architecture elements!
Love the depth in this photo… can you imagine a bride walking down this isle? Pretty
Black Swans –
I’m not sure what these are and I couldn’t find a sign to take a photo for a description. Beautiful!
Red crown crane – national bird of China
Bridge with those elements I constantly talk about.
This little place had a full restaurant and a few waiting to get in. We purchased the famous buns from here.
Xiaolongbao – I can’t seem to force my taste buds and pallet to the different steam buns. These had pork and some sort of gel in them.
I love the wooden fish sculptures.
I agree with you, those are pretty neat. Please feel free if you’d like to download and use as you would like. I think the artist is pretty darn creative to use bamboo that way. Thanks for stopping and commenting. Have a fabulous day!

Oh man I remember those birds! When we were there an old guy was making the craziest noises at them. Hahaha.
It was a nice area and I think I got this idea off your blog. I don’t have my notes in front of me sorry… but if it was, thank you. There is a garden you mentioned in Sheshan and we couldn’t find it. I’ll have to look and let you know. Hope all is well with you. What do you think of this crazy snow that is actually sticking to the ground? Have a great evening!
Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve been on here! I just got back from Thailand and landed smack dab right in the middle of work mode, arggh! I was loving the snow ( I come from Ohio and quite enjoy winter fun). After the snow it was off to Thailand! Hahaha. Which garden were you looking for in Sheshan?
Welcome back! Glad you went to the states and had a fabulous time in Thailand. Sounds like a good time!!… Actually, not in Sheshan but it was a water garden you had recommended off of line 9. I’ll send you the exact name, sorry, again I don’t have the information in front of me.
Cheers!

What gorgeous mushrooms. I”m going to have to try this!
I think you’re referring to the mushroom recipe. If so, there is a recipe I’d like to try that my friend is doing for lasagna. Using thin slices of zucchini instead of noodles, veggie mix instead of meat, and tofu instead of cheese. Doesn’t that sound fantastic? My challenge will be the sauce. Another vegetarian recipe to try. I’m looking for a vegetarian hotdog, know of any?
Cheers!
Maria
Oh – I make my lasagna like that! My mom told me about it and it’s so great if you’re getting away from those quick carbs or wheat! Can’t help you on hotdogs… in any form they’re off my list! 🙂
